The story 'Uddhar' highlights the piteous condition of a woman, named Gauri who gets throttled under the clutches of excessive possessiveness of her husband. Being suffocated of marital life, she craves for rescue to a monk, which also results in fruitlessness. Lastly, she finds out the way of rescue herself by opting for suicidal attempt.
